      Abstract
      In this workshop we offer participants: • An overview of critical literacy • An opportunity to explore the role of critical literacy in the development of an English teacher’s professional identity. • Some practice in applying its approach across multimodal texts, with examples of learning strategies for engaging students.• Some specific applications of critical literacy in the context of NCEA standards.
