Abstract
Formed in 1883 to rework ground at Te Aroha, the Golden Hill Company’s 18 shareholders included several experienced miners. But being under-capitalized and allegedly poorly worked, it was quickly in financial difficulties. The Te Aroha directors were accused of forming a company with the sole purpose of selling their shares, and calls were not paid. Not finding any gold, its existence was brief.
