The Earth Science Journal was published from 1967 to 1971 by the University of Waikato on behalf of the Waikato Geological Society. The Society and Journal eventually folded for financial reasons with the last issue being Volume 5 number 2 1971.
The journal was established to provide a place in which to publish articles that were of wide interest to earth scientists, and which crossed the boundaries of traditional disciplines. The journal was edited by Michael Selby, an internationally renowned geomorphologist, who was also influential in the eventual establishment of a Department of Earth Sciences at the University of Waikato in Hamilton in 1970.
